Overview

After rescuing the young Lord Rumlyn and returning to Lord Signmonder, the King’s Games were announced as a grand celebration of valor, skill, and diplomacy.
The Games drew nobles and champions from across the realm—but what began as a festival of unity ended in tragedy when the Royal Duel turned fatal.

Objectives

Role in the Story

The King’s Games marked the height of political tension in Aglarion, transitioning the campaign from celebration to crisis.
With the death of King Waldrann at the hands of the resurrected Queen Alyssa, the realm stands leaderless and divided.
The party’s reputation as champions of the realm now carries both honor and scrutiny as they are drawn deeper into the kingdom’s power struggle.

• Nelvax earns two entries into the final Battle of Champions.

Session 4.2

• The Champion’s Ball takes place among nobles and adventurers, culminating in the Royal Duel announcement.
• The final contests are revealed:
  • Bloom of Blood – free-for-all melee
  • King’s Gambit – 2v2 team battles
  • Royal Duel – one-on-one combat for the right to face the King himself.
• Zane and Harlekk win the King’s Gambit.
• Nelvax claims victory in the Bloom of Blood, securing his spot among the realm’s champions.

Session 5

• The party reunites for the climactic Royal Duel: King Waldren faces the Raven Knight before a roaring crowd.
• The King’s shield sprouts roots, transforming him into a towering oak-clad figure.
• The Raven Knight strikes true, defeating the King before revealing her identity—Queen Alyssa, long thought dead.
• Accusing Waldrann of kinslaying, she plunges her blade into his chest, killing him instantly before vanishing in black fire.
• Chaos erupts across the arena as the truth shatters the illusion of royal stability.
• The King’s Games end in blood and silence.

Outcome

• King Waldrann is dead, slain before the eyes of the kingdom.
• The realm falls into mourning and uncertainty.
• The party departs to their newly acquired Blackthorn Manor, soon to become their shared Bastion.
• Lord Signmonder summons the group to discuss the future of Aglarion and their role in it.
